FIX Maschinenbau GmbH is the oldest company in the UTZ Group and its business focus is predominantly on assembly technology.

In late 1959, Karl Utz applied to set up a mechanical workshop; the sole trader company FIX Maschinenbau officially came into being on 1st January 1960. Initially, business consisted exclusively of job order production. From the mid-60s, all manner of equipment as well as small machines predominantly for the packaging industry were manufactured.

A close relationship developed with Robert Bosch GmbH for whom parts were produced on a contract basis.

Over the years, this work has been extended to include the assembly of components and, from the mid-70s onwards, the complete construction of machinery for the assembly and materials handling industries. Increasing expertise and the expansion of their own project planning, design and electronics departments have also enabled FIX to produce complete machinery and plant for other customers around the world.

More recently, FIX have developed into a capable supplier of special machinery and industrial plant for use in the assembly, materials handling and testing sectors. From its own resources, the company offers a complete package that includes project planning, mechanical and electrical design and construction, software development, mechanical and electrical installation, on-site assembly and commissioning. Backed by this vast experience, the company is currently active in the following sectors: the car industry, the automotive supply industry, electrical engineering, electronics, microelectronics, household appliances, consumer electronics and medical technology.

There was a change at the top in 2002 when the second generation of the Utz family took over the running of the company. Since then, FIX has been managed by Thilo Utz together with Gerhard Bärtl. There was one other major development in 2002 when the company was accorded DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 status and was additionally certified as meeting the requirements of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA 6 Part 4).

In 2003, a long-cherished plan finally came to fruition. Two new production facilities were put into operation and floor area was almost doubled in size. Production is now distributed across two assembly halls on two storeys. Furthermore, thousand square metres of office and administration space were created on four floors of the main building.
